Bobcat Trail Running Smooth
The Sun-Herald - November 21, 1997
By Grant Boxleitner

Bobcat Trail, the 550-unit golf course community off Toledo Blade Boulevard, is beginning to take shape. Roads are cut, lakes are dug and fairways are cleared. People have already made claims on 20 lots in the multimillion dollar subdivision. Seven different model homes are springing up throughout the 500-acre site. Yorktowne Homes in Port Charlotte, which is building three model homes, is using tilt-up concrete slab walls on two of its models. The slabs, made by Quality Wall, are simply placed on the foundation of the house by a crane. Royal Brandt, president of Yorktowne Homes said the technology cuts about a month off normal construction time of a concrete block house. The walls offer stronger protection from hurricanes. Arthur Rutenberg Homes and Fero Construction each have two model homes. The seven Bobcat Trail models are expected to be completed by Feb. 1. Houses will range in price from $130,000 to more than $300,000. About 85 percent of the houses in Bobcat Trail abut the par 71, 6700-acre golf course, which was designed by PGA star Bob Tway. Villas are also available, starting at around $118,000. "The course will offer the type of shape more seen up north," said Jonathan Baltuch, a marketing director for Bobcat Trail. "We're bringing in 435,000 cubic yards of dirt to provide the contours and shaping. We're confident this will be one of the finest courses in the area." Sajo Construction, a Houston-based firm, is building the $5 million course. Next week, the company is bringing in finish shapers, specialists hired to carve out the course's nooks and crannies. "These guys use bulldozers like paintbrushes," Baltuch said. The golf course is slated to be completed by July. It will be open to the public. Workers are also widening a portion of Toledo Blade Boulevard for the entrance to the development. Bobcat Trail also includes a separate plot west of Toledo Blade for apartments and office space, Baltuch said.
